Network management for SMEs and enterprise

Design, installation and management of your wired and wireless network, by a single partner. We monitor your infrastructure 24/7 and pick up faults within the response times set out in your SLA.

Your network only gets noticed when it stops

As long as everything runs, nobody thinks about the network. Until a switch fails on the busiest day of the year, the wireless signal drops out at the back of the warehouse or a new site is not online in time. That is when it becomes clear how many processes hang on that one cable: tills, scanners, telephony, cloud applications and security cameras.

In many mid-sized organisations the network has grown in layers. A stretch of cabling from a refurbishment ten years ago, access points that were added on the side, a firewall configured by a previous supplier. Nobody holds the complete picture any more, and faults cost unnecessary time as a result.

A managed network means we restore that picture and keep it. We measure what is there, design what is needed, install and certify it, and then take over the management. One point of contact for design, installation, monitoring and maintenance, with agreed response times instead of separate invoices for every fault.

SME

Network management for SMEs

A smaller network is almost never designed. It grew: a switch added when a department arrived, a second access point because the back of the building would not connect, a router from the provider still acting as the firewall. While it works there is no reason to look, and when it stops nobody knows how it fits together.

We draw what is there first and measure where it pinches. Often the complaint that "the internet is slow" turns out to be a saturated wireless channel or a cable from 2011, rather than the connection being paid for every month. What is needed then is usually less than expected.

  • Measure first, buy second A wifi analysis shows whether it is coverage, channels or cabling before any hardware is ordered.
  • Out of the cupboard into a rack An orderly rack with labelled cabling saves hours of searching at every incident afterwards.
  • An actual firewall The provider’s router is a router; separating guests, staff and till or production equipment belongs somewhere else.
  • Monitoring that calls before you do Loss of a connection or an access point reaches us, not the first complaint.
Enterprise

Network management for enterprise organisations

With several sites the network becomes the part that holds everything together and therefore also the part that stops everything at once. Different suppliers per country, a connection inherited from an acquisition, and firewall rules nobody dares say what they were originally made for.

We reduce that to one picture and one set of managed network services: the same setup per site, traffic separated by type of device, and a change that happens the same way everywhere. Segmentation is not a luxury here but the measure that stops one infected workstation from reaching the whole chain.

  • The same setup per site One branch office networking design that works identically at every location, so knowledge and spare parts fit everywhere.
  • Segmentation between device types Office, guests, cameras, tills and production separated, so an infection does not travel.
  • Redundancy where downtime counts A second connection and automatic failover at the locations where an hour of outage costs money.
  • Changes inside your process Every adjustment runs through your change management, even when we carry it out.
What we deliver

Design, installation, security and management

Eight components under one agreement. You choose what you need. The point of contact and the SLA stay the same.

Structured cabling

Cat6, Cat6a and fibre cabling installed to the applicable cabling standards. We test every installation afterwards with NetAlly measuring equipment, so the signal quality is demonstrable, even when you scale up later.

Network hardware

Our engineers install and configure switches, routers, firewalls and wireless controllers. We select equipment to match your size and your growth path, not what happens to be in stock.

Network design and advice

An architecture that fits your organisation: from one site to forty without redesigning it, and auditable against the regulations in your sector. We substantiate the choices and document them, so you do not depend on knowledge held in one head.

Redundancy and failover

Backup connections and automatic failover that take over during a hardware fault or a failed line. The switchover runs without manual steps, so your processes keep going.

Network security

Firewall policy, segmentation into VLANs and intrusion detection, set up without getting in your users’ way. Guests, tills and management systems each sit on their own segment.

Wireless networks

Access points positioned on the basis of an on-site coverage survey, so the signal holds up at the back of the warehouse and in the concrete basement as well.

Network optimisation

We adjust configurations to spread the data traffic better: priority for telephony and till traffic, less delay in your business applications. After every change we measure again, so you can see what it has delivered.

Maintenance and support

Continuous oversight with monitoring software and support that runs 24/7. We see deviations before your users report them and respond within the response times set out in your SLA.

Approach

From installation to management in four steps

We never start by ordering equipment. First we establish what is there and what it has to do.

Network scan

We map your current situation: cabling, switches, access points, traffic patterns and bottlenecks. Including an on-site coverage survey where wireless traffic plays a part.

Design and advice

You receive a design with substantiated choices for topology, segmentation, equipment and redundancy, matched to your growth plans and your budget.

Installation and certification

Installation and configuration by our engineers, outside your peak hours where possible. Cabling and hardware are tested afterwards and handed over with a certification report per connection.

Management and optimisation

After that we take over the management: 24/7 monitoring, maintenance at fixed moments rather than after an outage, a review every quarter and adjustment as your organisation changes.

On site

The work you no longer see afterwards

The quality of a network is decided above the ceiling and in the patch cabinet. How the cables run, how they are bundled and how generously the trunking is sized. That determines whether you can add a workstation later without opening everything up again.

Our installers do that work at your location and plan it around your operations: outside opening hours in the shop, between shift changes in the warehouse, wherever that is possible. Every connection gets a label that matches the patch list, so a fault later is a matter of looking it up instead of working it out.

  • Room in the trunkingTrunking and cable routes are laid out with more capacity than your current need, so expanding later does not mean cutting into walls and ceilings.
  • Data separated from powerSeparate routes and enough distance from power cabling, so you do not pick up interference on your data lines.
  • Labels that match the drawingEvery port and patch cabinet documented, and we keep that documentation current for as long as we manage the network.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

The ones that come up most, answered briefly.

Do you install as well, or only manage?

Both. The IT installation services and the management come from one party: design, cabling, hardware, security and 24/7 monitoring, so an outage does not turn into a discussion between whoever installed it and whoever manages it. If you already have a network, we take it over after an inventory.

How quickly are you there when the network is down?

Monitoring usually sees it before you call, and most faults are fixed remotely. If somebody has to come out, the time depends on where you are; from Amsterdam and Antwerp we cover the surrounding region quickly. Your SLA states what you can expect, and that is an agreed time rather than a hopeful one.

Are you tied to one brand?

No. We work with Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki, Juniper, Ubiquiti and others, and the choice follows from what you need and what is already there. That also means we will not recommend a brand because we happen to have a partnership with it.

What does managing a network cost?

It depends on the number of sites, the number of connections and the cover you want. You get a fixed price up front, based on what is actually managed. Extensions we agree before we carry them out.

Who owns the network hardware, us or you?

You do, unless you deliberately choose to rent. We supply the switches, firewalls and access points, but they are registered to you and the licences sit in your account. That is a deliberate choice: hardware owned by whoever manages it makes switching expensive, and a client who cannot leave is not a client who stays because they are happy.

Can you take over an existing Fortinet or Meraki environment?

Yes. We start with an inventory: what is installed, how it is configured, which firmware it runs and which firewall rules are in there that nobody can explain any more. That produces a list of what we take over as it is, what we want to change and why. Only once that list is approved do we put monitoring on it and take over management.

We have sites in several countries. Can that sit under one contract?

Yes, and that is exactly what the three-office setup is for. The network design is the same in Amsterdam as in Karaman, monitoring shows every site in one view, and coverage continues because the shifts hand over to each other. What differs per country is the local reality: internet providers, hardware lead times and the rules on where data may sit. We arrange those per site, under the same contract.

What we are audited on ourselves

Our own certifications

ITproposal is certified for ISO 9001 (quality), ISO/IEC 27001 (information security), ISO 14001 (environment) and Kiwa NEN 4400-1 (labour hire and secondment). That says something about how we work and how we have our own processes assessed; it is not a certification you inherit from us.

Start with a network scan

We come by, measure your network and show you where the risks and the gains are. After that you decide for yourself what to take on.
