What Omron makes
Omron is Japanese and supplies a broad package for the factory floor: sensors, code readers, vision, controllers and mobile robots that drive trolleys through a hall. That it all belongs together in one system is the selling point, one supplier for the line instead of five pointing at each other.
Why Omron, and where it stops
Omron reaches us in the same place as Keyence and SICK: not for the sensor but for what comes out of it. A line with code readers and robots produces a stream of data that has to go somewhere, and that stream is often larger than the office network can take. Where it stops: the line itself belongs to the integrator. We do the network, and here that is more than a cable: the separation between the production network and the office network, so that encrypted administration does not stop the line and the other way round. That is the measure that pays off most at a manufacturer.
