What Areca makes
Areca is Taiwanese and makes RAID controllers: the card in a server that turns a stack of disks into one volume and keeps running when one fails. The brand has a firm place with those who build their own servers, because the cards handle many drives and have a management page of their own that works independently of the operating system.
Why Areca, and where it stops
Areca reaches us with a self-built server or a storage machine with many drives, where the server maker’s controller has too few ports or is too expensive. The management page of its own is in practice the argument: you see the state of the disks even when the machine will not boot. Where it stops, and this is the most important sentence here: RAID is not a backup. It catches one broken disk and nothing else: no fire, no ransomware, no deleted folder. The copy beside it is the conversation that belongs with it.

Yes. We supply and configure, and whether the management stays with us is a separate choice. What we do not do is hand over a box and leave the rest to you.
